Story & Atmosphere
Welcome to Warung Laota Sunset Road, one of the culinary gems located in the heart of Legian, Bali. Nestled at Jl. Sunset Road No.88, this bistro is a sanctuary for food lovers seeking authentic comfort food that resonates with homestyle flavors. With a reputation for serving delicious dishes in generous portions, it's no wonder that many find themselves queuing up for a taste of what Laota has to offer.
The reviews speak volumes. Customers rave about the steamed chicken infused with fragrant sesame oil and garlic—an exquisite dish that packs a powerful punch of flavor. Dewayu aptly noted, "A must-try spot!" With a menu abundant in choices, it's a culinary exploration that promises to satisfy diverse palates.
Another standout offering is the renowned porridge, which has garnered admiration from regular visitors like Marselina Purnomo. The porridge pairs perfectly with cakue and a fried egg seasoned with onions, creating a harmony of textures and tastes that you won't soon forget. Imagine savoring this delightful combination in the company of family or friends, all while enjoying a refreshing pot of oolong tea that’s meant for sharing.
The atmosphere, while warm and bustling—possibly due to the dinner rush—adds to the charm of dining at Warung Laota. While some guests, like Ignatius Adhitya and Dave Hoyles, have noted the need for improved air conditioning, they agree that the warmth is overshadowed by the nostalgia of homestyle flavors and the sense of community that this bistro fosters. The late hours also make it a perfect choice for a satisfying meal after a long day exploring Bali.
Highlights of the menu extend beyond the porridge, with items like the savory beef black pepper and the delightful Fuyunghai making a return each visit. The vast portion sizes ensure there’s plenty to share, making Warung Laota ideal for larger groups looking to indulge in a delicious meal together.
In conclusion, Warung Laota Sunset Road is not only a restaurant but a beloved culinary destination that encapsulates the spirit of comfort food in Bali. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a returning guest, the melding of flavors and heartfelt service will undoubtedly leave an imprint on your taste buds. Plan your visit early to enjoy the best of what this bistro has to offer!
“ A must try spot! Food is delicious and it has a decent portion for everyone. It is always packed and sometimes you should be on queue for the table. You ideally should come before 7 PM for dinner. This place has a lot of delicious options on the menu. In particular, The steamed chicken with a lot of sesame oil and garlic is so good! ”
“ The best porridge and cakue I've ever eaten! The fried egg with onions in it and the cakue are matches made in heaven with the porridge. The oolong tea can be shared between 4 people. Me and my family of 6 pax spent around IDR 378.000. ”
“ I love their porridge, Cakue, Beef Blackpepper, and Fuyunghai. I never eat here before even I went to Bali every year, after know this place, I am thinking to visit this place again next time I come to Bali. The portion is fit for big group people because of the big portion. The poor thing was one of the Air Conditioner was turn off so its a little bit hot inside this restaurant ”
“ When you craving comfort food in Bali, Laota hits the spot with their legendary porridge, savory dim sum, and homestyle Chinese dishes. Open late, perfect after a long day. Warm, nostalgic and favorite chinese flavors every time. My favorite menu is Telur Dadar with Bawang Bombay ”
“ The food was great we had bubur Pelangi which was tasty but the Sapo Tahu was just excellent. I do wish Laota had mapo Tahu because it's my favourite and I really wonder what it would taste like for Laota. The reason I only gave three stars for atmosphere was because it was just too hot in the restaurant but everything else was good. ”
